Stabilised GHRH analogue studied in visceral adipose research.
Overview
Tesamorelin is a stabilised synthetic analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), modified with a trans-3-hexenoyl group at the N-terminus to resist enzymatic degradation.
Research applications
- GHRH receptor agonism at the pituitary
- Endogenous, pulsatile GH release
- Visceral adipose tissue in research models
- IGF-1 response studies
- Lipid profile and triglyceride markers
Mechanism of action
Binds GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating the release of the body's own growth hormone in a pulsatile pattern rather than supplying exogenous GH. The N-terminal modification markedly extends half-life against DPP-4 cleavage.
