0.9% benzyl alcohol in sterile water — the standard reconstitution medium.
Overview
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water for injection with 0.9% benzyl alcohol added as a preservative. The alcohol suppresses microbial growth, which is what allows a vial to be accessed more than once — sterile water for injection is single-use by comparison.
Research applications
- Reconstitution of lyophilised research peptides
- Multiple accesses of a single vial
- Extended working life versus plain sterile water
- Pharmaceutical grade, endotoxin tested
Mechanism of action
Benzyl alcohol at 0.9% acts as a bacteriostatic preservative, inhibiting microbial growth without compromising peptide integrity. The sterile water base is endotoxin tested and pH balanced for reconstitution.
